General Tryout Rules

1. Each team member will be required to bowl 12 games for tryouts. Each tryout session will be conducted in 3-game blocks between Acadiana Lanes and Lafayette Lanes. A bowler must finish a tryout session once it has begun. No partial sets will be accepted, with the exception of an illness or injury.
2. All tryout scores must be legibly written on provided recap sheets and turned in to the either the head coach or assistant coach. Sheets must have first and last names clearly wirtten with the date.
3. If for some reason a bowler should have to miss a scheduled tryout session, they will be allowed to make up games under the following guidelines:
  • Bowler must notify the coach of their reason for missing.
  • Must bowl with one other bowler who is trying out.
4. Bowlers may only alter the surface of a bowling ball with abrasives prior to the start of actual scoring. Shining or polishing a ball is permitted at anytime.
5. Falsification of scores and or blatant misconduct are grounds for immediate dismissal from the team. ANY USE OF DRUGS OR ALCOHOL DURING OR PROMPTLY BEFORE TRYOUTS OR TRAVELING TO AND FROM ANY TOURNAMENT IS EXPRESSLY FORBIDDEN.
6. Smoking will be prohibited from all bowling activities: tryouts, team meetings, travel, tournaments, etc.
7. All traveling team members will be required to provided the coach with valid drivers license and information.
8. Tryout/Practice/Open Play policies:
  • Practice time is just that - time to practice. It's not time for horseplay or clowning around with others. Each bowler's behavior is important to the program itself, spectators, other bowlers and eventually the coaches team selection decision.
  • Bowlers should check out one lane only, depending on team members at practice.
  • A team member is bowling practice games is bowling for free. Therefore, a bowler may be "bumped" of their lane by an open play customer who is paying.
  • Bowlers are required to ask for a lane to be checked out. Desk workers are to be respected at all times.
9. Uniforms:
UL Lafayette uniform shirts will be provided for all traveling team members. Male bowlers must provide their own slacks (black). Male bowlers are not permitted to wear jeans or shorts in tournament competition. Female bowlers must provide their own slacks, shorts, skirts, or skorts. Teams uniforms will be issued to an individual prior to competition and each person will be responsible for proper care and return at the end of the season.

Team Selection Process

All eligible students are encouraged to participate in tryouts to earn a spot on the Ragin' Cajun Bowling Club team to represent the University of Louisiana-Lafayette in intercollegiate competition. The Ragin' Cajun bowling team(s) will be selected at the completion of the tryout sessions. Team selection will be based on the following criteria (not listed in order of importance):

  • Ability to adjust to lane conditions
  • Solid physical game
  • Accuracy
  • Solid spare game
  • Strike potential
  • Coach ability
  • Emotional stability
2. General team attitude
3. Experience
4. Sportsmanship
5. Work Ethic
6. Desire to learn
7. Attendance/Participation at team practices
